London City Lionesses settle into the Women's Super League in Bromley

Women's football in south east London has a new top flight team to cheer. London City Lionesses, based at Hayes Lane in Bromley, completed their first season in the Women's Super League in 2025/26, and they did far more than survive.
The club's rise has been rapid. London City Lionesses were founded on 13 May 2019 as an independent breakaway from Millwall Lionesses, and the FA approved the transfer of the Championship licence a few weeks later. Six years on, on 4 May 2025, they became the first fully independent team to be promoted to the Women's Super League, sealing the Championship title with a dramatic 2 to 2 draw at Birmingham City on the final day.
Their debut WSL campaign began with a 4 to 1 defeat at Arsenal, a tough introduction to the top flight. But the Lionesses settled quickly, picking up eight wins and three draws to finish sixth out of twelve teams with 27 points.
There were plenty of memorable moments along the way. The club's highest home attendance of the season came on 15 March 2026, when 5,414 fans watched the visit of Arsenal, and they enjoyed a 3 to 1 win away at Aston Villa in November. Freya Godfrey, Isobel Goodwin and Nikita Parris shared top scorer honours, and the team reached the fifth round of the Women's FA Cup, taking Tottenham Hotspur to penalties at Hayes Lane.
The club is owned by Michele Kang, who bought it in December 2023, and it shares Hayes Lane with Bromley FC. The ground has a capacity of 5,150, giving matches an intimate, community feel that suits a club built from the ground up.
For families, a Lionesses match at Hayes Lane is an easy introduction to live top flight football.
With a full season of top flight experience behind them, the Lionesses go into 2026/27 looking to build on a hugely encouraging start, and to keep growing their support across Bromley and south east London.
