London Lions defend their crown on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park after a clean sweep

East London is home to the best basketball team in Britain. The London Lions completed a historic clean sweep of the domestic game in 2025/26, winning all four trophies on offer, and this autumn they are back at the Copper Box Arena to defend their title.
The Lions dominated the season from start to finish. They topped the Super League Basketball Championship with 26 wins and six losses, the best regular season record in the league.
The silverware kept coming. In February they beat Newcastle Eagles 74 to 68 in the SLB Trophy final in Birmingham, and in March they beat Manchester Basketball 83 to 74 to lift the SLB Cup in Manchester. The season ended in style at The O2 on 17 May 2026, when the Lions beat Cheshire Phoenix 104 to 81 in the play off final, after knocking out Newcastle and Leicester Riders along the way.
The individual awards reflected the team's strength. Joel Scott was named Play Off Final MVP, head coach Tautvydas Sabonis was Coach of the Year, and Tarik Phillip was Defensive Player of the Year. Deane Williams and Joel Scott made the Team of the Year, with Phillip, Chaundee Brown and Williams named in the Defensive Team of the Year.
The new season brings fresh challenges. Liverpool Basketball has joined the league, taking it to ten teams, with each playing 36 regular season games over a 27 week campaign. In September the Lions hosted the inaugural London Lions Invitational at the Copper Box, with European sides Śląsk Wrocław, Žalgiris Kaunas and Paris Basketball, before opening their home league campaign against Newcastle Eagles on 20 September.
The cup will see the Lions host a quarter final on 10 January, with the final at the AO Arena in Manchester on 21 March.
With the Copper Box on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, a Lions game is one of the most exciting and affordable nights of live sport in the capital.
