Oren in Dalston wins a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its Middle Eastern small plates

Some restaurants arrive with fanfare. Oren in Dalston has built its following steadily, one plate at a time, and in February 2026 it was named among London's new Michelin Bib Gourmands.

The restaurant belongs to chef Oded Oren, who comes from Tel Aviv and ran a series of pop up residencies around London before opening his own place. He describes his cooking as "food that is inspired from my home and the Mediterranean using local and sustainable produce."

Oren opened in autumn 2019 at 89 Shacklewell Lane, just off Kingsland High Street, on a site that had previously been a brasserie called Floyd's. It is an intimate room, seating around 35 diners when full, with a bar area too. The Nudge reports that Oded self funded the restaurant and sets the menu himself.

The food is rooted in Israel with influences from across the Middle East, and the menu changes with the seasons. Dishes mentioned by The Nudge include burnt aubergine with tahini, baked hispi cabbage with romesco, brill tartare, ox cheek on hummus, grilled whole lemon sole with Kalamata olives and a Tamworth pork chop. Cardamom panna cotta has been on the menu since the beginning.

The wine list was curated by Zeren Wilson and favours smaller growers and biodynamic vineyards, with a rotating guest wine that can be ordered blind for a little fun.

Critics have long been fans. Jay Rayner described one of Oded's dishes as "verging on genius" after an earlier residency, and The Nudge gives Oren a score of 8.5. The Bib Gourmand, which recognises restaurants offering excellent value for the quality of their cooking, adds formal recognition to that local love.

Oren serves dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, plus lunch at weekends, and it makes a relaxed choice for anything from a quick plate at the bar to a long evening of sharing.
