The Padel Box brings five courts to a converted warehouse in South Bermondsey

Padel has become one of London's fastest growing sports, and South Bermondsey now has a club that shows just how much fun it can be. The Padel Box opened on 28 January 2025 in a retrofitted warehouse, and it brings a new kind of sports and social space to this corner of south east London.

The club was founded by brothers Terry and Charlie Williams. Terry spent 30 years in investment banking and was also involved in his father's property development company, and he fell for padel on family visits to Spain. Charlie is a former chartered accountant. The pair began working on the project almost two years before it opened.

Converting an old building was not straightforward. Padel courts need to be perfectly level, while older warehouses tend to have their quirks, so the team had to work hard to get the floors right.

The result is a clever "box within a box" design. A section by the front door holds the bar, changing rooms, pro shop and a work room for meetings and calls, with a mezzanine seating balcony above. This opens into a large hall with five panoramic courts, built to the sport's international FIP standard, and a central pillar with tiered seating for spectators. A high quality sound system runs throughout.

There is plenty to enjoy off court too, and its work pods make it easy to fit in a game around the working day.

Terry Williams describes the club as "welcoming, aspirational and social", adding that "Padel is a place community is built and friendships are formed." The club's Rebecca Morris said the team sees its competitors as "not just padel clubs but the whole array of wellness facilities".

Players can choose pay and play or membership options, with courts booked through the Playtomic app. A guide to London's most stylish padel clubs listed courts from around £60 an hour, with memberships from £30 a month, though prices may change.
